Production process of finned heatsinks
Mar 14, 2024| A finned heatsink is a device used for heat dissipation, typically employed in the cooling systems of electronic devices or computers. This type of heatsink is usually made of metal and features numerous protruding "fins" on its surface. These fins serve to increase the surface area for heat dissipation, thereby enhancing the cooling efficiency. Finned heatsinks work by conducting heat to the fins and then dissipating it through natural convection or other cooling mechanisms such as fans, to maintain the temperature of the device within safe limits.

Production process of finned heatsinks
1. For molds with high gear density and large tongue-to-tooth ratio, the supporting aluminum rods should be short aluminum rods or pure aluminum rods with lengths of 150-200mm.
2. Before trial molding, adjust the extrusion center, and ensure that the ingot barrel and the mold seat outlet are on the same centerline.
3. During trial molding and normal production processes, the heating temperature of the aluminum rods should be maintained between 480-520°C.
4. Mold heating temperature should follow the conventional mold temperature, controlled at around 480°C. For flat molds with a diameter below 200mm, the insulation time should not be less than 2 hours; for split molds, insulation should be for over 3 hours. For molds with a diameter larger than 200mm, insulation should be for 4-6 hours to ensure uniform temperature distribution between the core and the surface.
5. Before trial molding or production, clean the inner liner of the ingot barrel with a cleaning pad and check if the extruder runs normally without material.

6. During trial molding or initial production, switch off the automatic mode of the extruder and reset all switches to zero. Start pressure slowly from low pressure, with material extrusion taking around 3-5 minutes. During the aluminum filling process, mainly control the pressure within 100Kg/cm2 and the current meter data within 2-3A. Generally, material can be extruded at 80-120Kg/cm2, and then gradually increase the speed. During normal production, the extrusion speed should be based on pressures less than 120Kg/cm2.
7. If blockages, gear deviations, or excessive speed deviations are found during trial molding or production, stop immediately and use point retraction to remove the mold to avoid scrapping.
8. During trial molding or production, ensure that the outlet is unobstructed, and adjust the pad support or fixture according to the material discharge situation. Observe for any abnormalities and handle them promptly. Stop immediately when necessary.
9. During straightening, carefully check the changes before and after, operate according to standards, apply appropriate force, and strictly maintain product quality.
10. According to the requirements of the production plan, reasonably set the length. During sawing, the feed speed of the saw teeth should not be too fast to avoid damaging the ends. The ends need to be straightened, removing burrs and sharp edges.
11. Crate packing should be standardized, including placing pads reasonably to avoid damaging the profiles.
12. The temperature of the finned heatsink should be controlled at 190±5°C, insulated for 2.5-4 hours, and then cooled by air after coming out of the oven.
